The translation project is selected from Beasts at Bedtime, written by zoologist and ecologist Liam Heneghana.By analyzing a variety of classic children's stories and combining his own childhood experiences, the author reveals to readers(usually parents and children's guardians)the hidden environmental meaning in bedtime stories. In this way, parents can cultivate their children's sensitivity to environment and give them basic environmental education so that children will obtain the awareness of environment. The translator chose this book as the translation project, aiming at helping Chinese parents explore the environmental factors in bedtime stories when reading them to their children and cultivate children's awareness of environmental protection. Therefore, children can get enlightenment from them and make their own contributions to environmental protection.According to Reiss' s classification of text types, the type of this translation project belongs to a hybrid of types, which is between informative text type and emotive text type. Therefore, the difficulty of translation lies in ensuring the accuracy of the information and meanwhile paying attention to the stylistic features and styles of the original text.At the lexical level,it involves the translation of professional nouns, word extension and the conversion of part of speech. At the level of sentence,it includes the translation of long sentences and passive sentences. To solve the above problems, the translator took the skopos theory of Vermeer as the theoretical guidance. The translation techniques such as addition,four-character structure, division and change of word order are adopted. In the translation practice, the translator realizes that the main purpose of translation should be known before translation so that the corresponding translation strategies and techniques can be chosen. And finally the purpose of translation can be achieved and its function can be realized. When starting translation,a translator should first fully understand the meaning of the original text, and at the same time consider the scope of the target language readers. Finally, the translator should express it in a way that the target language readers can accept and understand. In this way can a qualified translation be obtained.
