A Report On The Translation Of Beasts At Bedtime:Revealing The Environmental Wisdom In Children's Literature(Introduction And Chapter 5)

Ecological environment is the prerequisite for human survival and sustainable development.Beasts at Bedtime: Revealing the Environmental Wisdom in Children's Literature is a literary review that explores environmental factors in children's literature,which discusses the rural areas,wilderness,urban stories and so on in children's literature.It can help readers know more about the thoughts on environmental protection in Western children's literature.This report selects the Introduction and the fifth chapter of Beasts at Bedtime: Revealing the Environmental Wisdom in Children's Literature as the translation material.Based on Nida's Functional Equivalence,this paper summarizes the translation from the following three aspects: writing style,cultural background and punctuation.The writing style of the original text can be reproduced by adding logical words,adding four-character idioms,splitting long sentences,etc;the cultural background can be supplemented by paraphrasing idioms and adding default information;the dash can be retained,omitted or put into words in different situations.These translation strategies are used to reproduce the information of the source text in the most appropriate and equivalent way.Through this translation practice,the translator accumulates experience and provides readers with new ideas of environmental awareness education.
