A Research On Primary And Secondary School Health Work In The Early Days Of The Founding Of New China(1949-1966)

Health is a cornerstone for the social development and well-being of the people and a hallmark of national prosperity.Since the founding of the People’s Republic,the Communist Party of China and state leaders have always attached great importance to the health services,taking the development of the health services as a significant part of the socialism with Chinese characteristics.At the 2016 National Health Conference,President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of health and put forward that"Prosperity for all is impossible without health for all.We will put people’s health in a strategic priority and protect the people’s health in an all-round and full life-cycle,which can be a firm health foundation for achieving the ‘Two Centenary Goals’ and realizing the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation." “Strong youths lead to a strong country." The health of young students is the precondition of national health.In order to ensure the health of the people and realize the longevity,we must pay great attention to health education,in particularly develop the health work in primary and secondary schools.It is not only related to the well-developed in physical and mental health of the young,but also the basic requirement of cultivating healthy talents and promoting the construction of healthy China,starting with the education of health science knowledge and healthy behaviors and habits among primary and secondary school students.At the beginning of the founding of new China,the school health work was carried out orderly with the attention and support of the Party and the Central People’s Government.All kinds of schools at all levels have established school health committee and actively organized students for health examination,disease correction and disease prevention.They have strengthened the health education to the students through some measures,such as health classroom teaching,cultivating students’ healthy habits,attaching importance to home-school contact and carrying out patriotic health campaign,which effectively promoted the health work of the primary and secondary schools in the early days.To a certain extent,the development of health work has ensured the health of students and implemented the comprehensive development of the education policy.It has improved the environment of the school health as well and promoted the development of the public health services.This paper reviews the primary and secondary school health work in the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic.It combs the achievements and shortcoming of theprimary and secondary school health work in this period,and analyzes its experience and enlightenment.This paper also further demonstrates that only under the leadership of the Party and under the protection of the socialist system,can people’s health be effectively maintained and guaranteed.The health work of primary and secondary schools under the leadership of the Party in this period is the concrete embodiment of the Marxist sinicization in health,which provides a historical reference for the current development of school health work,ensuring the health of all and promoting the construction of a healthy China.
