The Comparative Study On Translated Versions Of Shanghan Lun From The Perspective Of Lawrence Venuti's Foreignization Theory

With the close economic exchanges and frequent cultural exchanges between nations,China has proposed new concepts such as "going out" of Chinese culture,telling Chinese stories well,and building the "Belt and Road",which all shows the importance of spreading Chinese culture,letting Chinese culture go abroad and into the world.However,in this environment,the output of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)culture is both an opportunity and a challenge.More and more scholars have seized the opportunity to surrender their research to the English translation of Chinese traditional medicine books.However,how to introduce the valuable wealth of traditional Chinese medicine to the world faster and better,and make it known to the people of the world are also top priorities.It became a challenge.Investigation and review of the literature and related research on English translation of traditional Chinese medicine classics shows that many scholars have done a lot of research in this field and achieved some results.The texts selected for research are mainly based on the Huangdi Neijing.The number of studies in the English translation of Shanghan Lun is small.Shanghan Lun is one of the four classics of traditional Chinese medicine,and because of its unique characteristics and profound medical value,it has become a must-read classic of traditional Chinese medicine.This thesis takes Shanghan Lun and its English translation as research objects,and uses Venuti's foreignization theory as the theoretical basis to comprehensively use a variety of research methods such as literature research,descriptive research,and comparative analysis.First,it introduces its research background,research significance,research methods,and the framework of this thesis.Then,a literature review of Venuti's foreignization theory and Shanghan Lun was conducted.Secondly,the origin and main viewpoint of foreignization theory are explained in the theoretical framework.Then,in the main part,it expounds the visibility of translator,the foreignness in Shanghan Lun,and specific translation methods under foreignization.Finally,based on the analysis and research,the limitations of the thesis and insights for future research are given.It is concluded that the texts of TCM classics are rich in cultural vocabulary and profound TCM cultural thoughts.In the process of English translation,translation strategies should be selected flexibly under foreignization concept to preserve foreignness in the original text and spread TCM culture better and more accurate.It is expected to open a new perspective for the future development of the translation of TCM classics into English.
