A Report On The Translation Of Wuyuan-"The Most Beautiful Countryside Of China"

With the further development of the world's economy,the cultural exchanges between different countries and regions becomes more and more frequent.The openness and inclusiveness of Chinese splendid culture have attracted an increasing number of foreign tourists to visit for her beauty.Wuyuan,a county that has been reputed as the most beautiful countryside of China,boasts abundant tourism resources,historical attractions and cultural heritages,but has not yet any relatively complete English version on its tourist introduction for a long time.This phenomenon has inevitably caused an obstacle to the publicity of its local culture.Therefore,this translation practice is significant to both cultural publicity and economic development of Wuyuan.This report,in a bid to offer more information of the unique culture of Wuyuan to the target readers,takes the introduction excerpt about Wuyuan from Beautiful Landscape of Shangrao as the translation materials for the purpose of exploring the translation strategies and techniques of text,conveying cultural features of Wuyuan to the target readers.The source text possessed abundant vocabulary and distinctive cultural background,covering a great variety of local history,folk customs,legends,and specialties.However,in the translation practice,the author of this thesis tried his utmost to obtain reference by consulting the literature and viewing related documentaries to help this translation practice.In addition,the author adopted diverse methods such as literal translation,transliteration,and annotation etc.to tackle the obstacles that may occur in the process of words translation.Besides,intra-language translation,order adjustment and subject addition were also employed for sentences translation.With respect to textual level,the author mainly divided it into lexical cohesion and semantic coherence for analysis,trying to transmit the cultural connotation of source language.Through this practice,the author realizes that faithfulness is merely the basic requirement for translators to obey,because cultural tourism texts demands more.The author hopes that this translation practice will help foreigners to know the local culture of Wuyuan,making them feel that the trip is not only for having fun,but also for experiencing Chinese culture.Simultaneously,it is hoped that this report will render a reference for researchers engaged in tourist translation in the future.
