With the continuous reformation of English teaching,reading,as one of the five major language skills,is of great importance.At the same time,the proportion of reading in the College Entrance Examination(almost 63%)also proves its significance in English teaching.Reading is a comprehensive activity,which requires students to understand the text and handle several tasks,so reading is meanwhile a process of understanding and cognition.Only the combination of "reading" and "thinking" can be regarded as a complete reading process.With the development and implementation of the New Curriculum Reformation,the merits of Problem-based Learning in reading teaching have become increasingly prominent,which challenges the previous teaching model.Problem-based Learning is a problem-solving-centered teaching method,emphasizing that students solve problems by group cooperation,and ultimately achieve understanding,the mastering of knowledge and the improvement of their reading comprehension.From March 2019 to June 2019,the author tried to apply Problem-based Learning to the reading teaching of senior one in a school of Longquan.The author applied classroom observation,tests,questionnaires and interviews in the experiment,aiming at answering the following research questions.1.What is the effect of Problem-based Learning on students' participation in English reading classes of senior high schools? 2.What is the effect of Problem-based Learning on students' English reading proficiency? 3.What are the students' attitudes toward English reading after the application?Problem-based Learning can be applied in English reading teaching,with the following five steps: problem designing,problem analysis,problem solving,problem evaluation,summary and reflection,combining with the three steps of pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading,and it can effectively construct a student-centered reading teaching model.The experimental results show that,compared with the previous reading teaching method,Problem-based Learning in English reading teaching can improve students' English reading proficiency effectively in this art and sports high school.Besides,after the application of Problem-based Learning,students show learning interest in English reading,and they are more likely to participate in English reading classes.So senior high school English teachers are supposed to take full advantage of PBL,so as to improve reading teaching efficiency.
