In the highly centralized national political system of the Qing Dynasty,the governor system is the most critical link in its local governance.Sichuan is located in the southwest,adjacent to Tibetan areas,and has an important strategic position.In the early Qing Dynasty,the governor of Sichuan participated extensively in the Qing government’s management of Tibet and other Tibetan areas,and played a special role in the suppression of rebellion and chaos,logistical support,and stabilizing the border and consolidating Tibet.This article is mainly divided into four aspects: First,it sorts out the establishment and evolution of Sichuan Governor and green camp in the early Qing Dynasty,analyzes the evolution of the functional appellation of Sichuan Governor,and the fortification of the Green Camp soldiers closely related to Sichuan Governor in the border areas of Sichuan.Second,to investigate the changes in the relationship between politics and religion and ethnic relations in Tibetan areas during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,so as to highlight the strategic position of Sichuan region in the Qing dynasty in governing Tibetan areas.Third,through sorting out the important role played by Sichuan Governor in the war against Tibet,the paper explores his role in safeguarding the Qing Dynasty.Fourth,discuss the Sichuan governor’s regulation of Sichuan border Tibetan areas and Sichuan-Tibet access roads during the Chengping period,so as to show its role in maintaining stability in Sichuan border areas and Tibetan areas.
