A Study On The Longyou Governor In The Early Tang Dynasty

The military governor in Longyou area is an policy result of managing this religion by the imperial government in the context of the undermined Fubing system and the rise of surrounding nations, especially Tibetan. I study the questions systematically in relation to the military governor of Longyou area in early Tang Dynasty from the perspective of the institutional history based on the last research findings in the academia, and make use of the relevant epigraphs, inscriptions and handed-down documents to analyze them comprehensively in this paper.I pay much attention to the launch date of the military governor of Longyou area. New research and tease on the different dates in the historical literature has been carried out in the paper. In the end, according to the paper analyses, the year of 713 is correct. Then I analyze the military structure of the Longyou envoy from the views of military establishment, geopolitics and border defenses. It can be said that crack troops and talented generals gathered in the northwest, while the governor in Longyou directed the best ones.Finally, I study the primeval purpose of setting up the governor of Longyou and the institutional support in different stages. In the Pre-Kaiyuan period, it is regulated that the Longyou governor can neither be in absenteeism, nor assigned for a long time, and he can’t be on another position. In order to highly centralize and facilitate co-ordination, The military governor in Longyou also began to serve as YingtianShi and DuzhiShi,ect in 727, since then it gradually became an insititution. At the same time according to the characteristics of Tibetan infestation, Tang Ting has developed a system of anti-autumn. Moreover, the Tang authority developed the system of supervising the army to control it effectively by monitoring generals. In the early Tang Dynasty, the Longyou military governorship served as an effective institutional arrangement to maintain the stability of the situation in the northwest and was under the central government’s powerful control. The Jiedushi system itself had not existed problem., just because of the system bad execution of Jiedushi system originated in Longyou Area.
