Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, located in the northwest of China,is referred to as the"Li's Domain" in Oanggyar(Chinese:???)and offier related Tibetan writings.Although the people living there nowadays believe in Islamism,Buddha's teachings used to be spread around the region extensively in history,as can be seen in the Dunhuang document P.T.960 written in ancientTibetan language, which records Buddha's explicit statement in Niu-tou Mountain(Chinese:???)that this is the resting place of the "trai-lckyabudham".The number of bhiksu(Buddhist monks)who practiced Buddhism in the ancient Khotanregion is figuratively recorded in Tibetandocuments, with those believing in Mahayana Buddhism described as numerous as"the hair of a horse" and Hinayana Buddhism followers as many as "the hair of a ear",attesting to the prevalence of Buddhism in the region around AD.However,as one of the great achievers of Tibetan culture said,"Only two people in Tibet know where 'Li's Domain'is locateds me and Ren Uawa(???)."For a considerable period of time, due to various factors such as time and space, there are only a handful of researchers in the field of Tibetan culture studies who have investigated the literature related to "Li's Domain",and their findings are even scarcer.Over the course of time, this pheenomenton results in the gradual disappearance of many valuable classic texts about this field.Based on the consideration, this paper consists of a total of four parts, not counting the introduction and conclusion sections.Iris mainly based on the content of the two books in The Chinese Buddhist Canon(<???>)and the Dunhuang document P.T.960 written in ancient Tibetan language, and, with further reference to the Records on the Western Regions of the Great Tang Empire(<?????>)and other relevant Chinese historical documents, studies the origin of the mame,"Khotan(Chinese:??)",and its current location, the history of Buddhism disseminatiorLand the ancient Khotan royal family's efforts to propagate Dharma, etc. The author strives to accomplish a true reflection of historical events and provide much help as possible for relatedstudies.
