| This is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The source text is The Origins of the Lost Fleet of the Mongol Empire(Chapter 5),and there is no Chinese translation version of the book.The Origins of the Lost Fleet of the Mongol Empire conducts a detailed analysis of the origins of the lost fleet of the Mongol Empire when the Mongolians attacked Japan in 1281.The book was written by Randall James Sasaki,a nautical archaeologist in America.This translation practice includes three stages: the preparation of the translation,the process of translating,and proof-reading.This translation practice report focuses on the analysis of translation difficulties encountered during translation practice and the corresponding solutions.The translation difficulties are mainly reflected in the lexical aspect and syntactic aspect.The difficulties in the lexical aspect include proper nouns,part of speech,and polysemy.As for the difficulties in the syntactic aspects,they include the translation of adverbial clauses,attributive clauses,and passive sentences.With this translation practice,the report details and explains the translation strategies and skills used to solve the above difficulties.At the lexical aspect,four corresponding translation strategies are used,including transliteration,conversion of part of speech,selection and extension of the proper word meaning,and annotation.With the assistance of these translation methods and skills,the translation could be more rigorous and easier to understand.At the syntactic aspect,translation strategies and skills such as division,inversion,amplification,linear translation,and voice conversion are adopted.With the above translation strategies and skills,the translation becomes smoother,and the readability of the translation is enhanced to a certain extent.In the end,the translation practice report summarizes the gains and shortcomings.On the one hand,the translator’s comprehensive ability is tested and improved to a certain extent in the process of this translation practice;on the other hand,the translator realizes the importance of understanding the whole source text and expressing the source text’s deep meaning during the translating process.Besides,the translator puts forward suggestions for future translation practice. |
