The paper presents the reading teaching based on the Concept of Activity-based English Learning.The subjects involved in the study are students from two classes in a high school of Tianjin.The paper uses the lesson study to design and implement two cycles of reading teaching based on the Concept of Activity-based English Learning.The author applied the three levels of learning activities to design a series of integrated and comprehensive learning activities to clarify students’ performance in different types of learning activities.The procedures of Lesson Study involves(1)Determine the content of teaching and clarify the goal of the class;(2)design the instructional design of reading class based the Concept of Activity-based English Learning;(3)implement the first cycle of teaching;(4)adjust the instructional design and conduct the second cycle;(5)data collection and write a report.The results showed that students’ performance in learning and understanding activities was significantly better than the application and practice activities and the transformation and creation activities.Most of the students claimed that they were interested in the reading teaching based on the Concept of Activity-based English learning,however,they had some difficulties in handling the activities of application and practice and transformation and creation activities.The suggestions can be given to the senior high school English teachers according to the study.In the designing of the reading teaching,teachers should take the Concept of Activities-based English Learning as a guide,grasp the core elements of thematic meaning leading and three levels of activities to carry out the teaching.Teachers should design a variety of learning and understanding activities and run them through the whole reading teaching process,so as to lay a foundation for the design of practice and application,and transformation and innovation activities.In the application and practice activities,teachers should guide students to understand the text deeply,pay attention to the theme meaning,and analyze and judge the theme meaning.In the transformation and creation activities,teachers should combine the thematic meaning,create new situations,guide students to use the language knowledge to solve new problems so as to achieve the goal from the improvement of ability to the formation of English Key Competencies. |
