Writing as one of the four basic language abilities plays a crucial part of English teaching.In the last few years,with the deepening of the reform of English teaching,preliminary achievements are made in the students' communication ability,meanwhile,their English writing ability is paid less attention.Many students have been learning English for several years.After accumulating many words and grammar,it is still difficult for junior high school students to write a composition.Therefore,it is significant to explore a practical and effective way to solve the problem of the junior high school's English writing.Under this background,the lexical chunk approach has been emphasized and applied.This study attempts to introduce lexical chunks into daily teaching,and to explore the effect of lexical chunks on English writing through experiments in junior high school,to help students improve their writing proficiency and stimulate their interest in English writing.The experiment lasted for one semester.The subjects of this study are from two classes of Grade Eight.Class 3 was selected as the experimental group,in which the lexical chunk approach was employed,while Class 2 was selected as the control class in which the traditional teaching method was carried out.Therefore,two research questions are as follows: 1)What are the effects of lexical chunk approach on junior high school students' English writing proficiency? 2)What are the students' changes of interest in English writing after application of lexical chunk approach?The experimental results prove that lexical chunk has a positive effect on improving students' writing proficiency.Through the experiment,the teaching of lexical chunks has greatly inspired students' interest in writing and their desire to learn writing autonomously.Students know how to collect and organize materials,refine them and apply them to their compositions.
