As one of the basic skills of English,writing is the most complex and challenging skill,for it reflects learners’ integrated level.Though writing is so significant,the cultivation of writing ability is often ignored in actual English teaching in junior high school.For teachers,writing teaching is time-consuming and inefficient,so they pay more attention to vocabulary and grammar teaching.For students,the lack of vocabulary,and the shortage of accuracy and fluency of sentences and other problems trouble them,so junior high school students’ writing level is generally low.Lexical Chunk Approach proposed by Lewis causes many deep studies at home and abroad,which brings new illumination to English teaching.So far many studies have proved that the application of Lexical Chunk Approach to English writing can effectively improve students’ writing level.However,the participants of previous studies are mainly college or senior high students and less refer to junior high school students.Therefore,this study tests the effects of Lexical Chunk Approach on the junior high school students’ English writing ability through empirical research.This study mainly investigates three issues:(1)What effects does Lexical Chunk Approach have on junior high school students’ English writing ability?(2)Why does Lexical Chunk Approach affect junior high school students’ English writing ability?(3)How does Lexical Chunk Approach affect junior high school students’ English writing ability? During the 12-week experiment,the author uses pre-test,post-test,questionnaire,interview to collect data and uses SPSS 21.0 to analyze data.The conclusions of this study are as follows: Firstly,the effects of Lexical Chunk Approach on students’ writing ability mainly include improving students’ writing scores,enriching the number of lexical chunks in writing,and enhancing the writing accuracy and fluency.Secondly,the reasons why Lexical Chunk Approach has effects on students’ writing ability are that it improves students’ writing interest and confidence,and developing the awareness and ability of lexical chunks.Finally,the effects of Lexical Chunk Approach on students’ writing ability arereflected in some aspects: strengthening students’ study and use of lexical chunks,grasping the learning methods of lexical chunks.Generally speaking,the author thinks this study can provide some enlightenment for current English writing teaching in junior high school,for example,the teacher should cultivate students’ awareness and improve students’ ability of using lexical chunks in writing.However,there are shortcomings in this study: such as the author’s limited understanding of Lexical Chunk Approach,the imperfect design and implementation of the experiment.In future study,teachers should learn more about the knowledge and application of Lexical Chunk Approach,in order to better promote students to learn English. |
