Rawap,is an ancient plucked string instrument,it is popular in Xinjiang in China and Tajikistan,Uzbekistan.Rawap is played as folk instrument in many region in Xinjiang,also shared by Uyghur,Tajik and Uzbek.In Xinjiang in China,there are wide varieties of Rawap family,the Shepherd Rawap is one of the unique species,it is kind of original and ancient one.In this article,author try to combine the results of previous studies,describe that Shepherd Rawap`s cultural background,historical background and the principle of appearance shape that based on different perspectives of musical science.In the meantime,author in order to deeply understand content about Shepherd Rawap has been done fieldwork respectively in Qira and Qiemo county which all belongs to Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region of China.The articles main content include six aspects.The first chapter is an introduction;The second chapter is based on the existing results from predecessors researches and the information about history of the Shepherd Rawap that gathered by during the fieldwork;the third chapter is describe that process of Shepherd Rawap manufacture,including the materials used on the process;the forth chapter including how Shepherd Rawap used as accompaniment musical instrument and what kind of occasions is applied Shepherd Rawap;in chapter five based on the collection of folk songs that collected by author from Qira and Qiemo county,analyze the musical structure,tonal mode scale,melodic development techniques and rhythm and metre;in chapter six,author will explain the mode of Shepherd Rawap`s inheritance,which is based on the interview record with folk artists that I interviewed in my two-time fieldwork?
