Translation Report On Chinese Run-on Sentences From The Perspective Of Skopos

As one of the distinctive Chinese sentence patterns,Chinese run-on sentences appear frequently in both spoken and written languages.Among the Chinese-English translation practices,the complexity and flexibility of Chinese run-on sentences have brought much difficulty to translation and become a test for translators.The study for the translation of Chinese run-on sentences has been an emergent problem.Therefore,the translation study of Chinese run-on sentences is very essential.The translation material is an academic paper on the topic of Comfort Women: A Shocking Tragedy: The Sex Enslavement Chinese Comfort Women Have Suffered.Under the guideline of Skopos theory,the author studies the translation of Chinese run-on sentences.For the translation of Chinese run-on sentences,the translation skills of addition,omission,division and shift can be used.Addition can be used to complete the implied meaning and omitted components;omission can be used for the redundancy information;division can be used for the parallel structures in Chinese run-on sentences to break the sentence in suitable length;for the endocentric constructions,lexical-syntactic shift can be used;besides,translators can also use word class shift to make the translation coherent with the target language.It is hoped that the translation report could provide reference for the translation of Chinese run-on sentences and offer help and inspiration for further studies of Chinese run-on sentences translation.
