Research On Sargent’s Influence On Chinese Contemporary Watercolor Painting

John Singer Sargent is a famous portrait painter in Europe from the end of 19 th century to the beginning of 20 th century.He is also an important watercolor painter in watercolor field.Sargent,who studied portraits with the French painter Carolus-Duran in the early days,praised and affirmed by the people,the king of that time called him the most outstanding portrait painter.Sargent again explored and created watercolor painting in his middle age.Owing to the unique expression of light,color and shape in his watercolor paintings,he achieved the supreme achievement.Present in the contemporary watercolor paintings are Sargent ’s love and persistence for painting,his true feelings for nature,his concept of water color art and his skillful painting techniques.Up till now,these characteristics still arouse people’s thinking and have great reference value and reference significance to the development of water painting in our country.This article takes Sargent ’s watercolor art as the starting point,using the literature research method,the comparative analysis method and so on,and divides the subject content into four parts to carry on the overall analysis: the first part,starting from Sargent ’s artistic experience and artistic style formation factors,macro grasp Sargent ’s artistic background and the expression of light,color and shape in the watercolor art;The second part focuses on Sargent ’s influence on the art concept of Chinese contemporary watercolor painting.Analysis Sargent ’s influence on Chinese watercolor painting and the changes of the art ideas so as to carry on the inheritance and the innovation to the ideas of Sargent ’s painting.The third part focuses on the analysis of Sargent watercolor art in the creation of contemporary Chinese watercolor painting the concrete performance of including its creation styles,creative techniques and creativecharacteristics;The fourth part is the enlightenment about the development of Chinese contemporary watercolor painting after the full analysis and exploration,and finally draws the conclusion and makes a good prospect to the subject research.In a word,the author,on the basis of combing the art of Sargent ’s watercolor,will give the main clue to the influence on the Chinese contemporary watercolor painting art,and analyze the creative performance of the Chinese contemporary watercolor painting under the influence of Sargent.The purpose of this paper is to provide the theoretical basis and reference for the contemporary exploration and formation of the watercolor painting with distinct Chinese characteristics and style.
