In Western painting,light and color are important means of depicting objects and expressing space,while in watercolor painting,light and color are also important components;Watercolor pigments have the characteristics of transparency and lightness.Through methods such as halo dyeing,stacking,and blending,they can express the light and color of different objects,and can also create an atmosphere,enhance artistic conception,express emotions,and empathize with viewers;Starting from the painting language of light and color,this article mainly explores the expression of light and color in watercolor painting.By analyzing the painting works of William Turner,John Singh Sargent,and Alvaro Cast ego,this article summarizes the expression of light and color language in their watercolor works,absorbs and draws on the creative wisdom of predecessors,and puts it into their own creative practice.This article is mainly divided into four parts to elaborate on the expression and practice of light and color in watercolor painting.The first part is a brief introduction to the concept of light and color and the expression of light and color in painting.The second part focuses on analyzing the expression of light and color in watercolor painting,using contrast between light and dark,color values,and contour lines to represent light and shadow in watercolor painting;And analyzed the application and expression of gradient colors,environmental colors,and similar colors in watercolor painting;At the same time,the relationship between light and color was analyzed,such as the influence of light sources on color,and the expression of different types of light and shadow in color;Finally,the comprehensive expression of light and color was presented,and three painters were cited to study the expression of light and color in their watercolor paintings,such as the natural and noble light and color in Turner’s watercolor paintings,the agile and lively light and color in Sargent’s watercolor paintings,and the passionate and romantic light and color in Alvaro’s watercolor paintings.The atmosphere created by different light and color and the emotions expressed were analyzed.The third part is the author’s series of creative practices.Firstly,it explains the reasons for the creation of the author’s series of works,mainly focusing on the author’s life insights and the influence of various watercolor masters on the author’s creation.Secondly,it is the collection of materials and inspiration sources for the author’s series of creations.Finally,it elaborates on the process of creating the "Ordinary Realm" series.The fourth part is the reflection and inspiration of the author’s series of creations.
