Applying Learning Community Into English Teaching In Rural Junior Middle Schools

Abstract/Summary:
The causes such as starting late,lacking English learning atmosphere and having a weak faculty restrict the improvement of English teaching quality in rural junior middle schools.However,the traditional education mode,which focuses on teacher and textbook,exists in many English classes of rural junior middle school.This model can’t cultivate students’ autonomous and cooperative learning ability.Since the end of last century,the learning community has attracted the attention of scholars at home and abroad.The related studies mainly focus on two aspects: one is the theoretical development of learning community,and the other is the specific practice and improvement strategies.However,few researchers pay attention to the application of learning community in English teaching among rural junior middle schools.Taking a case of Sanli No.2 Junior Middle School in Guigang,this study attempts to apply learning community in classroom teaching to explore effective ways to promote students’ learning and improve teaching effects.The study aims to answer the following questions:(1)How about the effect of applying learning community into English teaching in rural junior middle schools?(2)What are the problems of applying learning community in rural junior middle school English teaching?The subject of the study is Class One Grade Eight of Sanli No.2 Junior Middle School in Guigang City.The researcher applies learning community to teach in the class,six classes a week for 18 weeks.This study main combined with the method of questionnaire and interview to collect relative research data.In the end,the result of this research are shown as follows: First of all,for students,the application of learning community in junior middle school English classroom teaching can arouse students’ interest,promote students’ classroom participation,improve learning behavior and enhance learning effect.In addition,for teachers,it is helpful to change their roles,promote cooperation and communication,and improve the teaching methods.Finally,according to the research results,some suggestions are put forward.Firstly,the teachers should improve students’ team spirit and cooperation consciousness.Secondly,the teachers should stimulate students’ learning motivation.Thirdly,the teachers must respect the students’ differences.Fourthly,the teachers must change their evaluation pattern.Fifthly,the school should foster supportive conditions.
