The translation material(13,691 words)of this practical report is excerpted from The Routledge Handbook of English Language Teaching published by Routledge in 2016 for the first time.It is the reference for postgraduate and advanced undergraduate students of Applied Linguistics,ELT/TESOL(English Language Teaching/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages),and Language Teacher Education, and it is also an authoritative guide for the development of in-service teachers and English teaching professionals engaged in academic research.Mindful of the diverse pedagogical, institutional and social contexts for ELT,the book convincingly presents the key issues, areas of debate and dispute, and likely future developments in ELT from an perspective of applied linguistics. From lexical, syntactical and textual levels, this report analyzes the key and difficult points in the comprehension and expression of the translation and probes into the different translation approaches and methods to solve these difficulties.Addition, omission or substitution can be adopted in the lexical translation;unit shift and division can be applied into the syntactical translation;and in textual translation, addition of conjunctions or paragraph reorganization can be used. The author hopes that the translation of this book can provide more accessible academic guidance for English Language Teaching researchers or those interested in language teaching, and afford available approaches and techniques for the translation of academic texts.
