| Undergraduates in early adulthood are facing a crisis of acquiring intimacy to avoid loneliness, but true intimacy requires a solid sense of self, which is the opposite of the characteristics of codependence in relationship.Codependence refers to an individual’s behavior pattern in the dysfunctional family in which leads to hiding their early development, and focusing on others, hiding self-feelings and losing self-identity.The information processing theory believed that the early parent-child experience makes individuals gradually forming an "internal working models",which will operate subconsciously and automatically, thus affecting individuals’ selective attention and processing of information. The research of codependence from the perspective of cognition can reflect how the "internal working models" affects the attention bias of the individuals with codependence on the different intimate information. The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of codependence of college students, the relationship between codependence and demographic, and the relationship between codependence and attachment styles of college students. Moreover, this study explored the internal mechanism of the attention bias in the intimate information among the individuals with different levels of codependence.Study 1 used a convenient sampling method to randomly select 560 college students from a university in Nanchang to conduct a questionnaire survey which investigate the status of codependence of college students, the relationship between codependence and demographic, and the relationship between codependence and attachment styles of college students.Meanwhile,it also prepared a foundation for the selection of participants in the second and third studies.Dot probe paradigm and clue-target paradigm were used in study 2 and 3 to investigate the attentional bias and its internal mechanism of the individuals with the character of codependence in the different intimate information. The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The phenomenon of codependence among college students is relatively common, but most of them are at the level of mild which is not serious;(2)There are differences in the demographic variables.Among them, male students are significantly higher than female in the dimensions of others focus, low self-worth,health problems and family of origin issues.College students who grew up in cities are significantly higher in the codependence scores and health problems than those who grew up in rural areas.College students who are only children are significantly higher than those who are not only children in the dimensions of codependence total scores, focus of others and family of origin issues.(3)The codependence is significantly correlated with the attachment, and individual attachment style can predict codependence level;(4)The attention bias of the individuals for the different intimate information is affected by codependence level;(5)The individuals with a high codependence degree tend to pay attention to the intimacy information that increases intimacy stems from the attention orient, while the attention to the intimacy information that decreased intimacy originates from the attention maintenance. Finally, based on the results of this study, the researcher proposes some specific suggestions for application in codependence interventions and provides references for the future research. |
