The Influence Of Attachment Style On Attentional Bias Of Emotional Information And Its Time Process

Attachment style is a systemic emotion and behavior pattern,which develops between individual and attachment partner in long-term relationships.The theoretical investigation between adult attachment styles and the corresponding attachment strategy inspired a large number of empirical studies. In recent years, with the information processing differences in attachment being emphasized in many studies, paying attention to the influence of attachment system becomes more and more important, so increasing research began to focus on individual attention bias in different attachment styles.At present, the research of attentional bias of different attachment style still exist several controversial issues.Firstly, the results of many empirical studies on attentional bias of attachment styles are inconsistent; Secondly, using the dimensional division to discuss the individual differences of different attachment style, there are few researchers to explore the attentional-bias characteristics of the fear attachment style (high scores in both of anxiety and avoidance dimensions); Third, there probably have the process characteristic with time in attentional-bias of different attachment style. Therefore, the current widespread use of the attachment measurement tool ECR will be used in this research and be basis of dividing subjects.According to the subjects in the avoidance and anxiety scores of high and low, they will be divided into four different types of attachment style, and at the same time using spatial cues in the research of attention bias’ characteristics of subjects’ attention on the emotional pictures and facial expressions at three time process (Early period:100ms; mid:500ms; Late:1250ms).Experiment 1 explored different attachment style effects on attentional bias of emotional picture and time process of attention. The results show that there are differences in attentional-bias of different attachment style in response to emotional pictures at different time process.(1)When the presentation duration was 100ms,attachment avoid individuals have positive bias and negative avoidance; Attachment fearful individuals also have negative avoidance.(2)When the presentation duration was 500ms,attachment anxiety individuals tend to avoid negative emotional pictures.(3)When the presentation duration was 1250ms,fearful attachment styles individuals tend to pay attention to positive pictures; attachment avoid individuals have both positive and negative avoidance. Experiment 1 using emotional pictures as stimulus material, attachment avoidant individuals showed the time-course features to negative stimuli:from alert to avoid. However, pictures as the stimulus only partly represent different individuals of emotional information processing, facial expression contains more social information, it is help to further verify the attachment avoidant individuals’attentional bias to the social emotions information from the alert to avoid.Experiment 2 used facial emotion as stimulus, further explored different attachment style effects on attentional bias of emotional picture and time process of attention. The results also show that there are differences in attentional-bias of different attachment style to facial emotion pictures at different time process.(1)When the presentation duration was 100ms,attachment avoid individuals have positive bias and negative avoidance to facial emotion; Attachment fearful individuals have negative avoidance.(2)When the presentation duration was 500ms,attachment anxiety individuals tend to pay attention to the positive facial expression, show a alert pattern.(3)When the presentation duration was 1250ms,attachment avoid individuals tend to avoid the negative facial expression.In conclusion, at early stage (100 ms), high avoidance and fear attachment individuals in general avoid negative emotional information (scene picture and facial picture) and show attention vigilance to positive stimulus. Especially, in the late 1250 ms, individuals tend to avoid the positive and negative stimulus. This research proves that negative attachment individuals’ processing characteristic, verify the attachment avoid individuals’ attentional processing characteristics-alert to avoid.
