| China Reinvents Itself is a documentary about China's latest scientific and technological achievements,and the promotion of the spirit of innovation,containing six episodes altogether,which has a significant positive impact on the dissemination of China's advanced science and technology and the promotion of the national image.Science and technology are the primary productive and the revolutionary forces that promote the progress of human civilization.Besides,innovation is also an inexhaustible motive force for the prosperity of a country bestowed with infinite vitality and hope for the future.The author chose the episode one Information and six Rising Tide as the interpretation material.This simulated C-E consecutive interpreting practice report is written by the author under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,which records the whole interpreting process including material selection,theory basis,glossary list,memory training,listening practice,note-taking skills,case study,post-interpretation reflection,quality control,etc.Besides,the author summarizes some unexpected emergencies encountered during the interpreting practice as well as makes thorough analysis of difficulties such as energy allocation,note-taking symbols system,four-character structure,culturally-loaded words,segmentation of long and complex sentences,etc in Chapter Two and Four.At the same time,based on the actual practice,the author will also provide specific constructive suggestions for documentary interpretation.First,interpreters should learn how to reasonably allocate the energy among memory,listening and note-taking in the process of doing the interpretation practice,overcoming individual's nervousness and dealing with all kinds of emergencies calmly,which aims to make sure the faithfulness to the SL;Second,interpreters should make comprehensive preparations in advance including completion of the glossary list,establishment of the theoretical framework as well as adoption of the interpretation strategies so that they can give full play to their own potential and accomplish the practice task successfully;Third,in C-E interpretation practice,interpreters should be aware of the significance of breaking away from the linguistic shell and extracting the sense from the SL,which has a crucial impact on thecomprehension of the TL audiences;Fourth,as for the culturally-loaded words or four-character structure,interpreters should acknowledge the huge differences between the culture of the East and the West.Besides,it is indispensable and crucial for interpreters to mobilize their cognitive knowledge to supplement the inadequacy of understanding of the implicit connotation;Fifth,to deal with the long and complex sentences,interpreters should distinguish the expression habits of Chinese from that of English.In addition,within the limited time,for the segmentation and restructuring of long and complex sentences,the author has to make out the corresponding sentence patterns in TL based on the differences and characteristics of Chinese and English by the means of information explanation,supplement,omission,processing of logical thinking,paraphrasing and sentence restructuring.The aim is to achieve concise,clear and faithful interpretation with coherent structural logic,which will make it easier for the TL audiences to comprehend well the real meaning of SL at the contextual level;Last but not least,the author hopes this report can not only serve as a reference for future interpretation studies,but also inspire more people to actively promote a better image of China,thus enhancing mutual understanding,exchanges and cooperation between China and the world. |
