A Research On The Creative Characteristics Of Twenty Piano Etudes By Philip Glass

Philip Glass(1937-)is an American composer who is representative,pioneering and influential in the field of contemporary composition.Based on the theoretical research of composition and composition technology,this paper analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of music creation techniques of Philip glass' s 20 piano etudes from four aspects: the overview of composer and works,music language content,music development techniques and music form structure.In the first chapter,the main achievements and winning experiences of glass' s artistic career are explained,as well as the relationship between his work "twenty piano etudes" and simple music and its significance as a piano etude.In the second chapter,the characteristics of rhythm,pitch system,melody form,chord and harmony in twenty piano etudes are analyzed and illustrated with examples.In chapter three,the main musical development techniques and characteristics of twenty piano etudes are summarized as "additional process","tone repetition","static harmony" and "phase shift".In the fourth chapter,the musical structure of twenty piano etudes is classified as trisected structure,cyclic structure and variable structure.The research shows that in twenty piano etudes,grass shows the composer's inheritance and development of the western traditional composing techniques.The works reflect the aesthetic appearance of the coexistence of "self-discipline" and "other-discipline".The work presents a fusion of technique and artistry,which further broadens the understanding and imagination of music listeners and practitioners on the traditional style of piano etudes.In terms of composition theory,this paper makes a special study on the composing techniques and characteristics of glass' s twenty piano etudes,which provides a useful reference for the research on Philip glass' s musical works in the field of composition theory in China.
