A Practice Report On C-E Interpretation Of Documentary China's Woodwork In New Era

This thesis is a report on the C-E interpretation of the documentary The Era comes from CCTV-9."Time" is a documentary screening launched by CCTV documentary channel(cctv-9)on January 1,2013.It mainly broadcasts social reality documentaries to show the vitality of The Times and arouse audience resonance.This thesis includes five episodes,the 1,2,3,5 episodes from The Era,they are One Vine Craft,Miniature Construction,Red Trousseau,Shawo Wooden Bowl and The Rebirth of Ancient Woodwork.They show different aspects of Chinese woodwork,the past,the repairing,the present,the collection and the assumption of the future of Chinese carpentry.This paper contains five parts.The first part is the background of the practice report,as well as the objectives,significance and information of this practice report.The second chapter includes three parts for the process description including before translation,during translation and after translation.Pre-translation is about theory preparation and interpretation preparation.In this part woodwork terminology,four-character expressions and culturally loaded words are displayed in table format.The challenges and difficulties encountered in the interpreting process are also described.After translation,the transliteration is discussed and the quality of the interpretation is evaluated.The third chapter demonstrates theory framework,introducing the main content of adaptation theory and elaborating four research perspectives of adaptation theory,including context adaptation,language structure adaptation,dynamic adaptation and adaptation process characteristics.The last part of this chapter shows adaptation theory applications in words,syntax,cultural context levels as well as in the interpretation process.Chapter Four,as the core chapter,analyzes the cases guided by adaptation theory from three levels :The word level: professional terminology and specially processed words,four-character expressions,phrases with Chinese characteristics and culture-loaded expressions;When it comes to the professional terminology of woodworking skills,interpretation needs to overcome the difficulties in interpretation.The main translation strategies adopted are literal translation,free translation,omission and abstraction,materialization and transformation.Chapter 5 summarizes the entire translation process and gains valuable experience and self-reflection.Sentence level : Long sentences,complex sentences,compound sentences.By interpreting the episodes consecutively from Chinese Woodwork in NewEra,the author analyzes the interpreting strategies used in the interpretation of Chinese characteristics,four-character phrases,culture-loaded expressions and complicated sentences and non-subject sentences based on adaptation theory.From another perspective,the interpreter makes a conclusion upon the issues in the report,involved with the speaking speed,listening skill,the tech of note-taking,short-term memory and speaking and non-language and frequent pauses occur in the interpretation.Finally,the author wishes that this report can be a reference for interpreter who want to deliver similar Chinese unique culture abroad.
