| Health has always been a constant concern of human beings and how to stay healthy by eating is an eternal hot topic.With the rapid development of the economy,the problem of food and clothing,which plagued mankind for thousands of years,has been solved.However,many nutrition-related problems,such as the coexistence of malnutrition and surplus and the occurrence of nutrition-related diseases,are still troubling the health of the public.The translation practice of this report is excerpted from Food and Nutrition: What Everyone Needs to Know.The book focuses on how people can live the healthiest,tastiest life through the power of food.The author of this report selects the fifth chapter for Chinese translation,which has more than13,000 English words in total.The fifth chapter mainly introduces how a healthy diet promotes the life span and the sustainable development of human beings.The future of food and nutrition science is prospected.Food and Nutrition: What Everyone Needs to Know is a scientific text.The purpose of scientific literature is to popularize scientific knowledge,disseminate scientific concepts,and improve the understanding of the public.Such kind of writing features on logic,accuracy and rigor,there are many things worth discussing from lexical,syntactic and textual levels.therefore,in this translation practice,the translator selects Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory as the guiding theory to discuss the translation strategy of this text.This report describes the background and significance of the translation task,the introduction and features of the original text,the translation process,the case analysis,the experience and lessons that translator drew from this translation practice.Based on the four perspectives of Adaption Theory and the characteristics of scientific texts,this report analyzes some difficulties that translator encountered in the translation practice.At the lexical level,the main difficulty lies in the choice and expression of the meaning of the word.According to Contextual Correlates of Adaptability,words are restored to the context,and their real meaning is decoded in combination with the specific context.At the syntactic level,the main difficulty focuses on long andcomplex sentences.Under the guidance of Structural Objects of Adaptability,division,inversion and conversion methods are adopted,along with adding and omitting.At the textual level,the main difficulty focuses on cohesion and coherence,under the guidance of Dynamics of Adaptability and Salience of Adaptability,the method of original word repetition and information reorganization are adopted to increase the fluency of the translation.The author hopes to make some meaningful attempts to translate similar texts through this report,to provide reference materials for researchers who focus on dietetics,and to provide supplementary materials for people who pay attention to diet and nutrition in China. |
