As one of the most prestigious directors in Chinese film fields,Edward Yang's works are rich in allegory,guidance and criticism and he especially pays attention to the growth of youth,which could be an excellent teaching case.This thesis attempts to use the theories of developmental psychology and pedagogy to analyze the growth of youth in Edward Yang's films,explore the role and influence of the tripartite educational environment among families,schools,and society on youth's personality development,based on which,the thesis summarizes the concept of youth growth and the educational significance conveyed by Edward Yang's films.Firstly,the thesis expounds the growth of youth as the basic concern of Edward Yang's film creation from two aspects of growth type and narrative structure.According to the different types of growth,the types of youth growth in Edward Yang's films are divided into three categories: "individual growth","psychological growth",and "key person growth".In terms of narrative structure,almost all of Edward Yang's eight works take the youth's individual growth and enlightenment as the starting point,the developmental obstacle or emotional obstacle as the narrative turning point,and the growth out of control as the narrative ending.Secondly,starting from the realistic topic of youth personality development,taking the case of youth growth in Edward Yang's film as a research object,this article analyzes issues such as self-identity,family relationships,and romantic relationship that occur in the process of youth growth to reveal the dilemma suffered by youth in Edward Yang's films.Thirdly,the thesis explores the influence of the tripartite educational environment among families,schools,and society on the growth of youth.At the family environment level,the analysis focuses on the influence of parents' parenting attitudes and behaviors on child personality and socialization.At the level of school education environment,the analysis mainly focuses on the alienation and influence of the school's authoritarian education concept on the teacher-student relationship.At the level of social education environment,the social education environment at that time was analyzed and restored according to the background of the times and ethnic conflicts,and the influence of social environment on the subtle influence of young people was explored.In the end,it is pointed out that Edward Yang's open,pluralistic,personality respected,complex and interactive concept of youth growth and its educational significance,and it also contains a broader meaning and value in life beyond youth growth.
