Edward Yang, the new film movement standard-bearer, the world’s most important filmmaster of art, with its unique narrative style recorded by the Taiwan modern history. He is goodat will western film theory and Chinese traditional aesthetics of film combination, thus formingan Taiwan self narrative film, indeed praiseworthy for one’s excellent conduct. His filmilluminates the whole Taiwan society, criticizing the modern civilization of people hypocrisy,pathological relationships, in-depth analysis of the social civilization of people’s state of mindand the state of existence. Edward Yang through their own unique image expression, Taiwantook the lead in breaking the traditional narrative pattern, forming a Chinese author movie style,also the Taiwan film into a global field of vision, is a worthy of learning and attention of themasters of cinema.This paper mainly to Edward Yang’s eight film as the main research material, drawing onprevious research results based on the use of induction, summarize the research methods, with anarrative film, movie linguistics as the theoretical basis for Edward Yang’s film works carried outa detailed analysis and review. From the narrative theme, narrative structure, narrative discourse,narrative strategy four aspects the movie theme, characters and narrative mode and film languageis divided into four parts discusses:The first part is to the movie was modelled, in narratology as a fulcrum, a comprehensivesummary of the Edward Yang film the main narrative theme, is the eternal theme of city, brutalyouth narrative and unique feminine angle of view, completed its theme selection in general; thesecond part system analyzes the narrative construction of artistic expression methods, mainly theprose narrative structure, narrative, dense fine tension full narrative irony and the open end,through the analysis to the understanding of Edward Yang’s unique narrative construction; thethird part from a linguistic point of view, through the concrete analysis of the composition, color,light, lens and other narrative discourse system of carding Edward Yang film picture, sound lens,three aspects of the characteristics of art, the Edward Yang film in the narrative discourse interms of artistic achievement; the fourth part specifically studies the Edward Yang film narrativepattern, mainly in the creative environment for innovation, realistic performance skills andrealistic critical spirit, through these regular research that how Edward Yang became the newTaiwan the film of a generation of master.
