In Taiwan’s film history,Edward Yang was recognized as one of the pioneers of “Taiwan’s new film” and played an important role in the history of Taiwanese cinema in the the 1980 s.He pays attention to the living environment of ordinary people under the siege of material reality,as well as their spiritual world and emotional tragedy.From “In Our Time” in 1982 to the 2000 “A One and A Two”,his 8 works have shown well-made,keen and delicate images,profound content,strong philosophical themes as well as better skilled and unconventional styles.This period has ushered in new developments in Taiwan.Edward Yang created his own era,especially in the film language,opened the film super long screening time precedent,and proved that good film can not rely on huge investment,but also can win a number of awards at home and abroad affirmed.Film,as a medium of visual communication,is directly related to the ability of film language to express reality.The author focuses on Edward Yang specific films,mainly introduces the position of sound and picture in the film language,and explains Edward Yang’s unique approach in the film language.The third chapter in the combination of sound and picture,the author will focus on the film sound painting outside the modern Taipei and internal physiological mechanism,with the help of light and shadow,color,composition,visual external focus,auditory internal focus and other elements,to interpret the material reality in Edward Yang film.The fourth chapter takes the music in the voice,the building in the picture as the double coordinate,to have a clear understanding of the Edward Yang film.Whether it is another voice of the sound-painting montage-music,or the difficulty of the intellectual road-architecture,it reflects Edward Yang sincere feelings for Taiwan.The fifth chapter is Edward Yang as a modern apprentice,can not be separated from the spiritual nourishment of the World’s Film Masters,this paper mainly takes Antonio and Woody Allen as an example to identify the parts of Edward Yang film that effectively absorb nourishment.The basic function of sound and picture lies in the expression of the lens.While the expression of the lens in Edward Yang film involves not only the complex relationship between the lens’ s own intention and the photographed lens,but also the propagation,anxiety and criticism in the context of a particular era.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the unique and absurd reality in Edward Yang film from two aspects including sound and picture,to excavate the true meaning of Edward Yang film content art and construct the aesthetic style of Edward Yang’s poetic expression in film on the basis of the theory of film language grammar,and finally complete the deep research on Edward Yang film.
