Urban Imagination In Chinese Science Fiction Since The Beginning Of The New Century

After decades of development,urban theme novels in Chinese science fiction have gradually matured.In general,Chinese science fiction writers have been greatly influenced by "science fiction realism" when imagining cities since the new century,and they generally tend to delineate the rich and diverse "science fiction city" narrative picture from reality.This paper holds that Chinese science fiction since the new century deals with "urban imagination" roughly from four angles.The first is the "mirror" urban space form: science fiction writers construct two different but related space forms in their novels,namely physical space of entity and virtual cyberspace,which seem to be the "mirror" of reality,continuing the tradition of "science fiction realism" in writing,reflecting all kinds of real world through deformation and exaggerated refraction;The second is the narrative of urban history under the influence of the "new view of time" : "Time" is very unique in science fiction,showing two narrative possibilities of urban imagination: future cities and historical cities.The urban imagination under the influence of these two time series has a strong tension,which brings new unfamiliar effects and poetic aesthetic experiences;The third is "problem-based" urban ecology:at present,the "man-made" characteristics of the city are becoming more and more obvious,which makes science fiction writers begin to pay attention to the contradiction between the city and the ecology.The writers’ views on science and technology have profoundly affected their understanding of urban ecology,make them to a certain extent try to reveal existing problems by doing "future experiments" in the text.But this kind of "problem novel" mode,which tries to show the inadequacy,not only brings about the meaning,but also brings some difficulties;The fourth is to construct the new citizen image of "change",which mainly focuses on the "change" of urban people under the influence of industry and technology,try to think and criticize the intertwined relationship between technological capital and the city,express the humanistic spirit,which has certain practical significance.This article is to make a more comprehensive and multi-angled exploration of urban theme novels in Chinese science fiction since the beginning of the new century in these aspects,in an attempt to excavate several important and characteristic aspects of city imagination in science fiction to supplement the science fiction research territory And promote the development of Chinese science fiction.
