Vocabulary is one of the three elements of language,and vocabulary learning is the base of language learning.For the secondary vocational school students,the traditional English vocabulary teaching method can't change the present situation,where the students are lack of interest and confidence in English vocabulary learning and have inefficient vocabulary learning strategies.Nowadays,English teachers in secondary vocational schools are facing difficulties in vocabulary teaching.In order to change the current situation of students' vocabulary learning in secondary vocational schools,it is very important to explore and discover a new way that is suitable for them to learn English vocabulary.Phonics is a teaching method that allows students to understand the relationships between letters and pronunciations of words and then use these relationships to decode words.After students master the principles of pronunciations of individual letters and letters in groups,they can spell the words out.Based on the Learning Theory of Constructivism and Learning Transfer Theory,this study applied Phonics into secondary vocational school vocabulary teaching,trying to answer the following questions by experiment method and interview method: Is Phonics effective in English vocabulary teaching in secondary vocational schools? If it is effective,which aspects do the effectiveness reflect in? And through which way?Based on classroom teaching practice,this study's research objects are the students who major in preschool education taught by the author.Class 1 is the experimental class,and Class 2 is the control class.16 weeks of vocabulary teaching based on Phonics was conducted in the experimental class,while the control class continued to use the traditional vocabulary teaching method.Before and after the experiment,the two classes were tested by pre-test and post-test of words spelling,and the SPSS software was used to analyze the data to explore whether the vocabulary teaching based on Phonics is beneficial to improve students' phonological awareness and spelling ability.At the same time,the study of English vocabulary learning attitude and learning strategies of the students in the two classes were conducted by questionnaire before and after the experiment,and the results were analyzed by the SPSS software to explore whetherPhonics is beneficial to change the students' learning attitude and optimize the learning strategies.In addition,after the experiment,the students of the experimental class were surveyed by questionnaire to show their views on the vocabulary teaching based on Phonics.After the experiment,10 students in the experimental class were randomly selected to be interviewed to get their views and suggestions on the vocabulary teaching based on Phonics.The following conclusions can be drawn from the data analysis.First,the Phonics is effective in English vocabulary teaching at the secondary vocational school,which is reflected in the students' vocabulary learning and the teacher's vocabulary teaching,and also in the students' positive evaluation of the application of Phonics in English vocabulary teaching.Second,the effect of Phonics on students' vocabulary learning is reflected in three aspects: the change of students' learning attitude,the optimization of learning strategies and the improvement of students' spelling ability.Third,the effect of Phonics on the teacher's vocabulary teaching is reflected in the change of teaching methods and the enrichment of teaching aids.Fourth,the effect of application of Phonics in English vocabulary teaching at secondary vocational schools is also reflected in the students' positive evaluation of vocabulary teaching based on Phonics.Students think that by learning the Phonics and understanding the relationships between letters and sounds,they can improve the spelling ability,and improve the interest and confidence in English vocabulary learning.From the application research of Phonics in secondary vocational school English vocabulary teaching,the author got some inspiration.First,changing the current English vocabulary learning situation of secondary vocational school requires bold innovation and practice.Second,adhering to the student-centered vocabulary teaching,changing the traditional spoon-feeding,or full-hall filling vocabulary teaching is necessary.Let students become the main body of learning,and the teachers should play the role of supporter,organizer,guide,activity promotor,and lead students to achieve meaningful construction.So that students can acquire knowledge in a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere.
