This translation material is from Small Spaces,a children's literature novel published by American best-selling author Katherine Arden on September 25,2018.The novel was listed as a Best Book of 2018 by American Publishers Weekly and Kirkus, the most reputable journal of review, but it has not published a Chinese version until now.The novel tells the story of an 11-year-old girl who enters another world with her two classmates, embarking on a thrilling and magical adventure.Reading this novel can greatly stimulate children's curiosity, interest in reading, and spirit of adventure.Children's literature is the literature created for children,so the translation of children's literature should also be translated for children. Therefore, considering children readers' psychological characteristics, cognitive levels and reading interest, the translation of the source text should be from the perspective of children readers. This point is consistent with the reader-centered principle of reception aesthetics.Under the guidance of reception aesthetics, the translator uses modal particles and onomatopoeic words in the target text to reproduce childish fun, making the language close to children's style of speech. Moreover, the translator adopts literal translation plus annotation or transliteration plus annotation to handle cultural factors in the source text,so as to avoid cultural misunderstanding and broaden the readers' cultural horizon. Finally, the translator utilizes amplification and inversion in the process of translation to facilitate understanding of children's literature readers, making the target text more accurate and fluent.
