A Study On The C-e Translation Of Political Text From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

As a highly authoritative political text,the Report to the 19^th National Congress of the Communist Party of China makes a review and summary of the performance of the Chinese Communist Party in the past five to ten years and puts forward a plan for the future,which is an effective approach for people both at home and abroad to get to know about China.Therefore,it is quite significant and necessary to study the translation of 19^th NCCPC report.Political text is a highly authoritative text type which is closely related to national policies.Thus,the translator needs to have highly political sensitivity during the translation process.The translation of the political text must emphasize clear logic and strong reasoning.This is not only a major feature of the C-E translation of the political text,but also a huge challenge to the translation.The translator should keep the accuracy and political sensitivity of the translation.Meanwhile,the features of Chinese political culture need to shown to the public,so as to achieve the purpose of external publicity and communication,and introduce Chinese culture to foreign readers at the same time.From the perspective of the Skopos Theory,taking the official English version of the Report to the 19thNational Congress of the Communist Party of China as an example,this thesis discusses the strategies and methods adopted in the C-E translation of political text,which may offer suggestions for the further researches.Focuses on the C-E translation of the 19th NCCPC report and analyzes translation methods adopted at lexical and syntactical level,the author draws the following conclusions:Firstly,thorough understanding of the connotation and exact meaning of the political text is the basic rule of the translation,especially the meaning of those political terms which may be related to the general policies and guidelines of Chinese politics.Secondly,various translation methods are alternatively adopted in tackling all the issues in the process of C-E translation of the political text including literal translation,free translation,amplification,omission,transliteration with explanations,restructure and other translation methods,in order to achieve the intended effect of external publicity and communication and to build a good image of China on the international stage.Thirdly,following the basic language rules and grammar function of the TL can be a better way product a good and acceptable translation of the political text.Therefore,more attention should be paid to the C-E translation of the political text so that China can be better understood by the world.The author hopes that this thesis may offer some suggestions to the translation of political text and make a little contribution to the translation studies.
