| The report is based on the translation project of American Environmental History by Carolyn Merchant.It introduces the changes and evolution of environmental history in the United States.Environmental history was first born in the United States.It is closely related to the traditions of politics,geography,culture,ecology and economy.Therefore,environmental history research also lays a solid foundation for the development of related historiography.The translator hopes that by translating this part of the content,people will realize that human civilization achieve sustainable development only if humanity and nature develop harmoniously.This report takes chapters 7 and 8 of American Environmental History as the subject of study.The analysis of translation strategies is the most significant part of the report.In accordance with the functional equivalence theory,the translator selects specific cases to make an analysis by using the related translation skills.The translator has carried out the analysis of the translation strategies from the facets of lexis,sentence and text.Besides,as for the lexical level,skills such as part-of-speech conversion,word meaning supplement and extension are used to deal with the translation of cultural vocabulary.The translator also focuses on the comprehensive translation methods such as reverse translation,and the textual level involves cohesion between paragraphs.In this thesis,the translator realizes that in the aspect of part-of-speech conversion,the focus are the alteration of English prepositions and nouns to Chinese verbs.As to the syntactic level,we need to make long sentences shorter and convey the original information by using translation strategies such as sequential translation and adjustment of word order.In addition,we should use logical words to reflect the logic of the text,analyzing the context to avoid logical errors in the translation,so as to ensure the coherence and cohesion of the text.The author puts these experiences into practice report,hoping to provide guidance for future translation practice. |
