| This is a project report on the English-Chinese translation of London: Aspects of Changes.The translator translated the first chapter and tenth chapter,with 15,680 words,which covers gentrification,mixed living and urban development.Moreover,this report aims to explore the features of the source text,the difficulties encountered in the translation,and methods used to ensure an accurate and appropriate target text.Initially,the translator introduces details about the translation task,and illustrates the significance of the task.Then,a brief introduction is given to the pre-translation preparation.Simultaneously,the translator reveals the text type,lexical and syntactic features of the source text.Afterwards,lexical and syntactic translation methods are analysed with examples.At the end of the paper,the translator makes a conclusion of this translation practice,including reflections on some issues in the translation process.The text analysis reveals that the source text is a hybrid text with informative and expressive functions,of which the former is the prominent one.On the lexical level,the source text is filled with terminology and polysemous words with special meanings related to urbanization.On the syntactic level,the source text abounds with long sentences and passive sentences.In the translation process,the translator adopts different translation methods to solve lexical and syntactical problems.On the lexical level,translation methods including addition,deduction and conversion are used to add accuracy to word translation.On the syntactic level,techniques like anastrophe,restructuring,embedding and splitting are employed to increase the readability of the target text. |
