In recent years,China has shifted from paying attention to translating academic works into Chinese and absorbing and learning from foreign academic achievements to translating excellent Chinese academic works into foreign languages, spreading Chinese academics and voices. This turning point has great significance.Under the background of globalization,it is a task for academics and translators to explore the foreign translation of excellent Chinese academic works. The translation materials of this report are excerpted from the social science academic work A Study of the Relationship between the Tang Dynasty and Silla in the Mid-Seventh Century. From the perspective of Newmark’s text typology theory,it aims to deal with the difficulties in the process of translation, namely,a dense piece of writing;many proper nouns, running sentences and classical Chinese. For case analysis, typical translation examples are selected, and the translation strategies and skills are adopted in the process of translation.Specifically,at the lexical level, combined with the text typology theory and under the guidance of semantic translation, transliteration, annotation and explanation are adopted to deal with the translation of proper nouns such as official titles; At the syntactic level, under the guidance of communicative translation, through sentence restructuring and conversion of voices make the target text more natural; At the textual level, cohesion and coherence are achieved through the substitution and addition so that the target text can be better understood. This report hopes to provide reference and enlightenment for future translators to translate the same type of texts by studying the problems and solutions in the foreign translation of social science academic works.
