As a higher education institute which has been in close communication with the international academic community,the Institute for China Rural Studies of Central China Normal University holds an annually political science symposium where scholars and researchers from home and abroad are invited to share their insights in various subjects.On September 11,2019,Dr Dixon from the University of Oxford was invited to give a lecture themed Shared Services in English Local Government.The author was recommended to perform consecutive interpretation at the lecture.Produced based on the transcription of the recording of this interpreting task,this report conducts a detailed case study using authentic examples selected from the transcription,attempting to explain deficiencies during the author’s performance relating to insufficient available efforts of listening and analysis,memory and note-taking,and summarize five feasible coping tactics applied by the author through analyzing more satisfying instances in reference to the Efforts Model theory proposed by Daniel Gile in the 1990s.This thesis consists of four chapters.Chapter one is an introduction to the background and nature of the interpreting task.Chapter two gives a detailed description of the three stages of an interpreting activity,namely,pre-task,while-interpreting and post-task.In Chapter three,the author provides a case study under the guidance of the Efforts Model of deficiencies in the performance as well as coping tactics summarized based on ideal renditions in the interpreting.Chapter four concludes the thesis by presenting findings and limitations to this study.
