| In this translation practice, the translator’s task is to translate the paper Cheng Shi Tu Di Kai Fa Qiang Du De Qu Yu Cha Yi Yan Jiu into English. The translator translated such a topic twice and has a strong interest in it.The original text which mainly introduces spatio-temporal changes and differences in urban land development intensity, according to Newmark’s text type theory,is an informative one.The urban land development intensity, comprehensively reflecting the land utilization status and its carrying capacity within a specific space, plays an important role in economic, social and ecological development. In order to accurately convey the important information contained in the source text, guided by Newmark’s theory, the translator adopted communicative translation to deal with the differences between source language and target language at lexical, syntactic and discourse level. In terms of vocabulary, most of the words appear in the source text tend to be formal, and the translator often came across technical terms. In order to objectively and accurately convey the original content, the translator paid more attention to the choice of words in the translation process. At the same time,to ensure the authenticity of the translation, the translator made full of conversion. When it comes to sentences,it can be found that long sentences are widely employed in the source text,to make clear the meaning of the sentences and precisely convey the meaning, the translator restructured or adjusted the sentence structure through combination,division,active-passive conversion, reordering. And as for discourse level, the emphasis is mainly put on the cohesion and coherence between the source language and the target language. The conclusion of this report is that with the help of Newmark’s theory, the translator can use communicative translation to create objective and accurate translation. |
