This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of Australian Economic Development in the Nineteenth Century,which mainly introduces the influential factors of Australian economic development in nineteenth century.The translator selects Chapter Two as the translation material.There are four parts in this translation report: translation task description,translation process description,translation case analysis and conclusion.The case analysis after the translation practice is the core content of this translation report,and appropriate translation strategies and methods are adopted for the difficulties in the translation process.According to the characteristics of the source text,the author selects Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory as the theoretical guidance.The translator discusses and analyzes the translation methods of vocabulary,long sentences and discourse.The main methods for lexical translation including diction,conversion and amplification of words.The main methods to deal with long sentences are splitting and embedding.And for discourse,the methods of grammar cohesion and of lexical cohesion.Through this translation practice,the translator realizes the important guidance of the theory of communicative translation and understands that translators need to be equipped with various qualities.It is hoped that this translation practice report can provide some references for other scholars.
