A Comparative Study Of The Chinese And English Translation Of The Temple Of The Golden Pavilion From The Perspective Of Translation Ethics

The Temple of the Golden Pavilion is the work of the famous Japanese writer Yukio Mishima,which has been widely circulated in both China and the west.The book has been translated into Chinese,English,French,German,Bulgarian,and other languages.As this book reflects Mishima's special aesthetic and ethical views,it raises huge debates around the world.Since translation studies have started to Cultural turn,scholars also begin to focus on translation ethics which gives us a wider view of translation activities.Also,Chesterman's translation ethical models intend to help translation activities.However,whether these models have good applicability still needs further studies.Furthermore,exploring the ethical views behind the book also helps us figure out how cultural factors can affect translation and how translators can deal with these cultural conflicts.In this way,this thesis makes a comparative analysis between the Chinese translation by Tang Yuemei and the English translation by Ivan Morris.Through comparative analysis,this thesis attempts to analyze the application of Chesterman's translation ethical models and the cultural factors reflected in the translation.Through using descriptive and prescriptive studies,first,this thesis finds that these models still have limitations.Second,as ethical conflicts will affect translation,translation practice should consider cultural differences and make compromises at last.
