The report, based on the author's experience in I ABA Asia-Pacific International Conference 2019 as a simultaneous interpreter, probes into the challenges of interpreting and the causes from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory, and therefore proposes strategies for translating Chinese cultural elements in simultaneous interpreting. The report starts with a task description and a holistic review of task completion. Then, the author introduces the Interpretive Theory represented by Seleskovitch and Lederer, including the triangular model and cultural transfer.Based on the theoretical framework, typical examples related to interpreting Chinese cultural elements are selected to analyze challenges the author faced and provide strategies for future improvement. From the analysis, the author finds three levels of difficulties of interpreting Chinese cultural elements:mishearing, literal understanding and cultural ignorance in comprehension;inadequate deverbalization;and insufficient explanation in re-expression.Suggestions are therefore put forward, including putting more effort in knowledge acquisition, extending the EVS and simplifying expression, and explaining implicit meanings.By analyzing mistakes and putting forward strategies, the report hopes to provide reference for similar interpreting tasks in the future and to provide inspiration for practices and teaching of simultaneous interpretation.
