| As an "exotic product",modern Chinese drama has always been open to actively explore the advanced Western theories of drama and imitate and learn excellent Western drama creations. At the beginning of the 20th century,Ibsen entered the field of vision of the May 4th Cultural Revolutionist as a "realistic playwright" and became a guide for the enlightenment and changers during the May 4th period and a model for Chinese drama creators, promoting the personality of the May 4th period.Liberation and social transformation have an irreplaceable and important influence on the establishment and development of modern Chinese drama. To some extent, the May Fourth Drama was established and developed in the next step under the influence of Ibsen. Therefore,a systematic review of the establishment process of the Ibsen drama paradigm during the May 4th period, and a comprehensive examination and rational analysis of the internalization, variation and causes in the May 4th drama creation process will help us to objectively evaluate the May 4th drama Gains and losses, discuss Western drama theory and creative skills, and learn from their experience and lessons.Apart from the introduction and conclusion, the thesis is divided into four chapters. The introduction includes the background of topic selection, the definition of related concepts, and a review of the current research situation of Ibsen and the May Fourth Drama. The first chapter introduces the introduction of Ibsen and the establishment of Ibsen’ s drama paradigm. From the initial dissemination of cold to the "Ibsen fever" in the May 4th period, the new youth school represented by Hu Shi played a huge role in translation and interpretation. The second chapter analyzes the origin of "Ibsen fever" and the creative background of the May Fourth Drama. The historical context of enlightenment and salvation during the May 4th period required advanced Western democratic ideas and literary styles. They could help China complete modern transformation, and drama was pushed onto the historical stage as a broad audience. However, the content and form of traditional opera cannot meet the needs of society, and the increasingly degraded civilized drama is also abandoned by readers and audiences.Under this circumstance, the introduction of Ibsen’ s drama and the construction of new dramas became inevitable. The third chapter discusses the May 4th drama creation under the influence of Ibsen.Inspired by Ibsen and his dramatic spirit,a large number of Nora-type plays and social critical plays were produced, which greatly promoted the emancipation of the mind and social change at that time.At the same time, the May 4th drama writers also began to consciously imitate Ibsen’ s’ "discussion" drama skills and "retrospective" narrative structure, initially constructing a new form of drama, and promoting the modernization of Chinese drama. The fourth chapter discusses the variation of the May 4th drama when imitating Ibsen’ s realism plays, and further analyzes the reasons for this phenomenon. The variation of the May 4th Drama has its positive side as well as its negative side.On the positive side, under the influence of the Ibsen social problem drama, the performance of the May 4th drama extended to all aspects of social life.On the negative side, the May Fourth Drama advocates and playwrights’ narrow interpretation and superficial identification of Ibsen led to the lack of clarity of drama awareness, immature creation techniques, character images and plot types in actual creation Issues such as cultural and artistic interest. In the end,it failed to produce excellent drama works that could stand the test of time. The reasons for the investigation include the emotional anxiety of the times and traditional cultural accumulation. The conclusion part briefly summarizes the relationship between the May Fourth Drama and Ibsen. On the one hand,it affirmed the achievements of the May 4th drama in the reference and absorption of Ibsen’ s plays. On the other hand,it reviews and analyzes the superficial connotation and patterning defects caused by mutation and dislocation in the May 4th drama creation, and provides lessons for the current and future drama creation. |
