Abstract/Summary:
With the acceleration of China’s industrialization and economic globalization, petroleum enterprises have ushered in new development opportunities, and the cooperation between China and other countries in the field of economic cooperation is becoming increasingly frequent.Logging Operation Project of Pre-exploration Wells in Block X of Khorat Basin,Thailand is a new practice between Yanchang Petroleum Group and Thailand. The translation materials come from the bidding documents of the project, which mainly includes the overview, bidding announcement, instruction to bidders, evaluation method and bidding document format, etc.Bidding documents contain a large number of terms, and there are many long and difficult sentences, and the sentence structure is complex and flexible. In order to realize the pragmatic function of bidding, this paper combines functional equivalence theory to solve the problems in translation.Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory plays a guiding role in the translation of the bidding documents,in view of this, taking "Bidding Document for Logging Operation Project of Pre-exploration Wells in Block X,Khorat Basin,Thailand" as an example, this report first analyzes the text features of the bidding document, and then combines the functional equivalence theory, analyzes the translation strategies and methods of bidding documents from three aspects, namely, vocabulary, syntax and style respectively, and summarizes the relevant problems so as to make the target text closer to the language style of the target language and realize the expected purpose of translation. In terms of vocabulary, this report collects technical terms and discusses the choice of word meaning, archaic words and selection of modal verbs. In terms of syntax, this paper discusses the necessity of translating such texts by means of translation skills, such as non-subject sentence, the long difficult sentences. In addition, the thesis is concerned with passive voice and stylistic equivalence. In the last chapter, the paper discusses the major findings and points out some limitations and suggestions. This translation practice report is intended to provide reference and guidance for the translation of similar petroleum bidding texts.
