With the development of science and technologies,artificial intelligence(AI)has been widely used in our daily life and various robots are also making our life more convenient.It is necessary for us to know basic AI knowledge so that we can seek benefits and avoid harm,with a better service from AI.As a result,the translation of foreign AI books seems particularly important.The source text of the report is selected from the seventh and ninth chapters of Artificial Intelligence Basics: A Non-Technical Introduction.The seventh chapter mainly introduces industrial and commercial robots,humanoid and consumer robots,etc.The ninth chapter discusses the future trend and influence of AI.The translation practice report mainly adopts the research methods of literature review and case analysis,and combines the stylistic characteristics of popular science texts,analyzes the translation of the original text from the perspective of words,sentences and background knowledge.On the word level,the report focuses on terms,the meaning and transformation of words;on the sentence level,the report analyzes complex sentences,passive sentences and parenthesis,as well as translation techniques,such as subject substitution,sentence order adjustment,annotations adding,etc;on the professional knowledge level,the reports introduces some necessary technical expertise about AI,robots,etc.Through this translation practice,the author has a deep understanding of AI knowledge and the translation of popular science texts.The author deeply realises the importance of knowledge reserve,information retrieval and translation proofreading,which serves as a foundation for the future translation work.
