This is a translation report.Thrillers have attracted more and more attention since the 19th century.An increasing number of scholars have started to study thrillers for they not only can provide readers an excitement experience,but also can reflect goodness and evilness of humanity and the changing tendency of morality and ethics.The source text is selected from Beautiful Liars which is written by a famous British psychological thriller author Isabel Ashdown.Beautiful Liars is also a popular fiction emphasizing the needs,interests,reading ability and reception psychology of readers.The task of this translation project is from section one to six in part one of Beautiful Liars including about 19,000 words.The story of the translation task is about investing a missing teenager girl named Juliet who disappeared eighteen years ago.The author of Beautiful Liars applies multiple points of view to tell the story which enable readers to experience the compelling plot from different viewpoints.Beautiful Liars is a psychological thriller,a crime fiction and also a popular fiction.The change and development of the plot is of great importance and the language used in the source text is popular and easy to understand.The translation practice is under the guidance of skopos theory.The type of the source text and the skopos of translation decide the selection of translation strategy,method and technique.In the translation process,the primary skopos of the translator is to convey the complete plot to the target readers.A coherent and readable target text is also one of the skopos.Three rules of skopos theory are skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,which provide directions and solutions to the translator when she comes across difficulties and challenges and play a guidance role in the translation project.The translation version of Beautiful Liars may be of some help to provide a reference text for the researchers of modern British thrillers and the translation report may be of some help to the application of skopos theory in thriller’s translation.The target text might help target readers to know more about modern popular British thrillers.Meanwhile,the target text provides an opportunity for readers to know part of the changing tendency of modern morality and ethics in the UK.Through the translation practice,the translator has a deeper understanding of the skopos theory.The translation ability of the translator has improved.There is an obvious enhancement of translator’s ability of applying translation strategies,methods and techniques after the translation practice.
