Friedrich Dürrenmatt,as a representative figure in the German theatre world, often has the same dramatic achievements and grotesque artistic techniques as Brecht. When examining the waves and human nature in the inner world of the characters Dürrenmatt often uses grotesque techniques to describe the sick things and reflect the sick society, which makes the fate of the characters and the living environment in his works show the general characteristics of desperation and decadence. It can be said that low, dark, and crazy became the general tone of his morbid writing of drama creation. The paper is mainly divided into 5 parts:The introduction introduces the value and significance of the research in this paper and analyzes the current situation of related research.Part 1 elucidates that the "morbid" writing of the Di style is characterized by pathological characters and pathological environment. The characters in the play as a whole exhibit pathological characteristics. At the beginning, the characters who seemed to be normal in their words and deeds gradually became prominent after interspersed with accidental events. The characters who appeared to be funny and absurd in their words and deeds also took a dramatic reversal and became the object of praise in the author’s writings. After clarifying the development of the characters and the author’s praise and disparagement, this thesis divides the pathological characters into three categories and classifies them into two kinds of fate and destination according to their respective choices. The lengthy environmental description and stage introduction in the play convey information about the character’s family and the surrounding environment. Before the story occurs,it has created a gloomy and cool atmosphere, which helps to deepen the understanding of the character’s pathological impermanence. It is the crisis and challenge that the Western human society faces that is reflected by the morbid characters and pathological environment depicted by reference to the absurd society and individuals.Part 2 expounds the causes of Dürrenmatt’s "morbid" writing style. His "morbid" approach to writing is not only influenced by the world tide of absurd changes and theaesthetic tendency of Western literature, but also the result of his own pursuit of another way in his writing style. He used a large number of symbolic and exaggerated expressions to express two distinct themes with two contrasting characters. He completed the transition of character identity by interspersing with accidental events with "impromptu fantasy" characteristics, making the character and the established identity diverge. At the same time,he stood in a unique perspective and reflected on the major events of the 20 th century in history. He pondered world issues from a wide range of world thinking, paid attention to the survival and development of mankind, and considered the fate of mankind and the direction of social development. The third part clarifies the significance of Durrenmatt’s drama "morbid" writing.Through a large number of symbols, exaggeration and deformation,he diluted the significance of the existence of characters, abstracted and conceptualized the images of characters, highlighted the destruction of human nature by alien forces, confronted the absurdity of the whole world by individuals, exposed the morbid social reality, explored the essence of human nature, and formed a decadent and sentimental aesthetic style, which had strong literary significance. The conclusion summarizes the characteristics of’ Dürrenmatt’s "pathological" writing style, summarizes the experience and lessons, and provides a reference for contemporary dramatists to expose social ugliness.
