As a motif of literary creation, illness is a common symbol in poetry. It not only presents the development process of Chinese modernity, but also becomes one of the important perspectives that pay attention to the living conditions of modern human beings. It's meaning interpretation space gradually develops and transforms, forming a metaphorical world of illness. This paper takes 1985-2015 as the time span, and focuses on the Third Generation Poetry in the mid-to-late1980 s,the PersonalizedWriting in the 1990 s,and the Working Poetry in the new century to explore the development trajectory and value significance of illness. The writing of "illness" is reflected in the body of modern and contemporary Chinese poetry, from banteringillness in the Third Generation Poetry, putting in a tight spot in the 1990 s,and the accusation of illness in Working Poetryin the 21 st century. In the meantime, from "upper body" to "lower body",from the imagination of "illness" to the imagination of "death",from lyricism(abstract)to narrative(specific),from "mental illness"(recessive)to "physical illness"(dominant),and "mental illness" runs through it all the time, showing different pathological representations, this process in turn interprets the theme of life metaphor, cultural metaphor and social reality metaphor of "illness",and roughly outlines the historical trend of modernization. In addition, the concern and writing of "illness" have profound aesthetic and practical significance for poetry creation and the times. On the one hand, trying to establish the new dimension of aesthetics based on the poetry text in the pain of social transformation, and complete the writing dimension from "subject" to "body","discard" to "recurrence".On the other hand,by writing diseases and confronting illness,it not only reproduces the history of modern life and death, but also projects the poet's strong critical consciousness of society and the times, thus constituting the care of human beings' universal living conditions and recording of self-healing through literature.
