A Report On E-C Translation Of Black And White Australians(Chapter6-7)

This is a translation practice report guided by functional equivalence theory.The original translation task is selected from the Australian ethnic history book Black and White Australians written by Margaret Franklin.This book was published by Heinemann Education Press in 1976.There is no Chinese translation of this book at present in China.The translator chooses chapter 6 and chapter 7 as the translation material.These two chapters mainly present that with the completion of the colonial process,Australian colonies have successively promulgated laws to establish indigenous reserves or missions,appointed indigenous protectors or set up protection committees,in order to relief and control indigenous peoples,and comprehensively establish indigenous protection policies.But in the end the protection policy went into failure for various reasons.The original text belongs to the informative text,which has the characteristics of the large amount of information and clear logic.The author uses Eugene Nida's “functional equivalence theory” as a guiding theory and uses translation methods such as filling-up translation,free translation,division,addition and conversion to analyze the text from two aspects: vocabulary and sentences.The author hopes that this practical report will help readers better understand the history of Australia,and that the experience gained in this practice can be used as a reference for the Chinese translation of the same kind of works.
