Si Ku Ti Yao Bian Zheng(which will be abbreviated in Bian Zheng),by Yu Jia-xi in the Minguo period,is an academic masterpiece, with a total of 490 volumes and more than 800,000 Chinese words, focused on making a modification and supplement to Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu(hereinafter referred to as Zong Mu)completed in the era of the emperors of Qianlong and Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty.Based on Zong Mu,Bian Zheng conducts textual research on and modifications to original versions, academic values, biographies of authors, etc.of volumes included in Zong Mu and facilitates later generators to make the most use of Si Ku Quan Shu,reassess the value of Zong Mu,and lean into the academic history of the Qian-Jia School.Bian Zheng has two main characters. One is that integration of the concept of conducting academic research, holding a specific balance in the Han-Song studies, makes Bian Zheng not only the peak of academic works on textual criticism in the Minguo period, but an independent school with powerful thoughts. The other is that Yu Jia-xi started relevant textual research and writing when he was involved in the first reading of Zong Mu at the age of 17.Until only a few years before his death for severe and lingering illness,Yu Jia-xi stopped compiling Bian Zheng. It is inevitable that Bian Zheng might occur some negligence because the contents of it represent neither the author's academic ideas of the same period, nor his academic level of a certain period. From the perspective of these two distinctive characteristics of Bian Zheng above, this paper will further explore academic and thought values of Bian Zheng on the basis of previous research and re-modify and replenish some entries not finalized yet due to limitations of specific era,in accordance with the supplement and modification to Bian Zheng by Yu Jia-xi in all his life. The paper consists of the following three chapters:The first part-Chapter one-includes two aspects set forth in three sections. The first section will explore Yu Jia-xi's understanding of thoughts on traditional Chinese bibliography and theories on formats of ancient documents cited in Bian Zheng,by comparing Bian Zheng wrote down in his earlier years with two theoretical writings,i.e.the Bibliography Fawei and the General Structure of Ancient Documents in his later school period. The second and third sections will analyze the subjective conditions of Yu Jiaxi to sort out and modify Zong Muin terms of textual criticism methodology, materials, ideas, etc. The Second part will modify and supplement the Classics Branch and History Branch in Bian Zheng and mainly focus on some uncertain subjects,by Yu Jia-xi,to be conducted textual research. And the paper will be unfolded under the original four-branch taxonomy from Bian Zheng.
