This report is based on one of the author’s interpreting experiences on Oct.25th,2018 at the Training Seminar for Highway Managerial Staff from South Sudan sponsored by Ministry of Commerce. This training project, organized by Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College, mainly consisted of lectures given by Chinese lecturers and the follow-up discussions with South Sudan listeners. The author was recommended to consecutively interpret one of the lectures themed "Roadbed and Road Surface Test and Quality Evaluation".The theoretical basis for this report is the Eco-translatology theory proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen. It assisted the author mainly in two aspects.First,it provided translation principles and methods for her interpreting activity, and helped her to address the problems encountered during pre-task preparation and the interpreting process. With its guidance and by means of addition, omission and replication, adaptive selection was achieved in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions after the author adapted herself to the interpretational eco-environment.Second,it provided references for her reflection, enabling the author to expound and analyze the interpreting process systematically. This activity has a significant role in the author’s interpretation learning experience, for it revealed her strengths and weaknesses, leading her to further improvement.Meanwhile,it made the author realize that it is crucial for qualified interpreters to equip themselves with background knowledge and to strengthen interpreting training both in and out of class.
