| In order to maintain the bond of good-neighborliness between China and ASEAN countries and attract young people to participate in regional cooperation and exchanges,34 young leaders from ASEAN countries were selected and invited to attend the 52nd ASEAN Young Leaders Training Program(Indonesia,Malaysia,the Philippines,Singapore and Thailand)in Nanning,China.During this time,Guangxi Youth Exchange Institute organized inspections and offered training courses on topics such as Chinese traditional culture,China's national conditions,economy,politics,youth work,China's cooperation with ASEAN countries under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative.From September 1st to September 4th,2018,the author had the honor to undertake the consecutive interpreting task in this program and served as on-site interpreter for five training courses.Affected by the lecturers'diverse teaching styles,the primary materials provided to the author were limited.Thus,it requires the author to collect background information and build a glossary using anticipation in task preparation.Meanwhile,this task covers a variety of contents,involving culture,national conditions,economy and so forth.Considering that the author was not an expert in those fields,this task might be regarded as a challenge with certain research value.With variation translation theory as the theoretical basis,the author explains the definition and development of this theory in case study and highlights the application of adaptation techniques including expansion,deletion,editing,condensation.Meanwhile,interpreting failures such as misinterpreting,information redundancy are discussed as follows.The materials for interpreting research should be updated and replenished continuously.Therefore,the author hopes that her personal experience could be counted as first-hand materials for interpreting study thus providing some references for future interpreters who will interpret for China-ASEAN related training courses. |
